The Pacific franc (ISO code: XPF) is the official currency of France in the overseas territories of the Pacific region, guaranteed by the French government and fixedly pegged to the euro to ensure exchange rate stability.
The Pacific franc is legal tender in the French overseas territories of French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna.
The Pacific franc is divided into coins and banknotes: coins in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 francs, and banknotes in denominations of 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 francs, which make it convenient for daily transactions and savings.
Created in 1945, the Pacific franc was initially pegged to the French franc, then changed to a fixed exchange rate with the euro after the birth of the euro (1 euro ≈ 119.33 Pacific francs), continuing the system of French economic support for the Overseas Territories.
