The Trinidad Tobago Dollar (TTD) is the official currency of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, issued and administered by its Central Bank, with the currency code TTD and the common symbol TT$.
The Trinidad Tobago Dollar circulates only in the mainland of the country, including the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, where it is the only legal tender and is not officially used in any other country or territory.
The currency is decimalized, with $1 equaling 100 cents, and the denominations of bills include $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100, while coins are available in denominations of $1, 5, 10, 25 cents, and $1, 5, and $10.
The Trinidad and Tobago dollar was officially introduced in 1964 as a replacement for the West Indian dollar, initially pegged to the Pound Sterling and then to the United States Dollar, and is now subject to a managed floating exchange rate regime reflecting the country's process of economic autonomy after independence.
